Looking For a Miracle
Main Scripture Isaiah 52:7
“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.’”
In times of uncertainty, we search for possibility.
In times of hopelessness, we search for a savior.
As I think about a miracle, I think back to a time in my life 5 years ago. On a day in December a went into the hospital for a routine surgery that would normally allow me to come home afterwards that same day. We did decide before surgery that I would stay overnight. Really only because insurance said I could. God’s plan starting playing out right at that very moment. Over into the night, my husband started noticing that I wasn’t waking up and that my vital signs were dropping. By early morning, I was being transferred to another hospital for another surgery to repair an artery that had been nicked in the previous surgery. It wasn’t until two hours later that my husband was told by the doctors that I should have died and that he will be taking home a Christmas miracle. In the days ahead, I received 8 units of blood and a blessing (yes, I said blessing) that I will never forget. I don’t remember very much about that week I spent in the hospital, but the one thing that I do remember is during the surgery to repair my artery, I remember opening my eyes for just a few seconds and seeing the doctor holding her hands in the air praying for me. Let me just tell you, that I felt a feeling like I have never felt before. There was a peace that came over me, and at that point, I knew that everything was going to be ok. It was amazing to see that my physician didn’t depend on the works of her own hand, but the hands of the Great Physician. After coming home, just a few days before Christmas, I realized that God had a plan in this situation. Was it that he was getting my attention, because maybe my life wasn’t on the right path? Or, was it that I needed this story in my life to be able to share with youth just like you? Miracles happen in different ways, but I believe God gave me life that day so that I can tell HIS story of saving me. In those moments of being afraid, and at loss, my husband told me that God was the only one he could turn too. Who do you turn to in your time of fear, loss, confusion, etc.? Turn to the One who gave you life and died in the cross for you. He will never leave you or forsake you.
“People are looking for miracles”. In this time of of stress and everything that comes with the COVID-19 virus, people have dealt with death, job loss, anxiety, fear, busted future plans…
How are we preparing to be the hands and feet of Jesus at a time like this? How are we looking to be the carrier of miracles for the glory of God? Let’s get one another to be a people marked by Holy Spirit attentiveness, generosity, hope and peace. Your encouragement could be the answer to someone’s prayer. Your generous gift could be their miracle that is much needed. Keep your eyes open, your hands ready and watch God move through you!
Hebrews 10:23-25
23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Matthew 3:15-16
15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.
Think about the following questions as you go through the week.
As you pray for those in need, how might God be asking you to be a part someone’s answered prayer?
Ask God to highlight people who are in need of financial, spiritual and emotional support.
What needs do you have at this time? Ask God to step into your life and partner with you as listen for His voice and direction.
