Only God can define you.
Main Scripture: John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”-John 16:33
We live in a world full of sin and even as Christians we sin, but that’s what we have just celebrated this weekend that Jesus died a crucial death on the cross and rose three days later for OUR very own sin.
The world can easily define our sin and condemn us of that sin, but this isn’t the conviction from God this is satan. Yes, Satan wants you to sin and fall into traps that are there to deceive and fill you with pain.
I can attest to many times in my life where Satan has made me feel ashamed of my sins, but we are to live in the freedom that Jesus has given us. Let me give you an example, say I gave you a brand new white shirt, but you continued to wear the old torn beaten up white shirt that you had worn forever because it is “comfortable.”
This is us, but with our sin. God is giving us brand new life and forgiveness from sin (the new white shirt) but we still keep hold of that sin (the dirty white shirt) because it has a hold on our life. Our sins can end up defining us without us even knowing that they are.
Sometimes in life we disregard our sin and we don’t even realize the sin in our own life. We ALL have sin whether we want to admit it or not, pray and ask God to reveal these things to you and ask for his guidance through your sin. Also, don’t struggle in sin alone, as a body of believers and especially your Transformed Family we are here for one another, praying for each other.
But let’s all be real here, our brand new white shirts can get dirty. If you are a believer and you have asked Jesus into your heart sin is a battle but we have to live in daily repentance to the Lord. Each day we are to fill our mind, body and soul with God’s word and allow his spirit to fill us daily. But this isn’t always easy when sin is around every corner.
John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
This verse is so fitting because this is when Jesus was telling his disciples about how He would be returning to the Father very soon. We are to find peace through our many trails and through the sin we face in our life. He didn’t promise us an easy life but he promised us eternal life and that is the best gift anyone could ever receive.
So today, put on the clean white shirt that Jesus has given you and live in freedom and not bondage to your sin. Throw away the old dirty white beaten up shirt that is your sin and don’t look back. Don’t let the world and your sin define you but let God define you. Christ has risen from the grave, the free gift of Jesus Christ is right in front of you. Let’s rejoice in that promise today!
