Life is a Vapor
Main Scripture: James 4:14
In James 4:14 we see a verse that shows us what our time is really like. As a young boy I thought time on earth would last forever. With that statement there is 1 truth and 1 lie. The lie being that our time on earth will not last forever, the truth being that time in general will last forever. Every single person that is reading this devotional today has a destination where you will spend forever, eternity, in. Heaven for the believer in Christ Jesus and Hell for the non-believer. I know some may consider that a “Grim” way to open up a devotion. But God has let me know recently that we aren’t promised tomorrow. During our short time on earth we get to choose where we will spend forever. We must try to live our lives for Christ in such a way to take others with us to heaven. Students, Life on earth is truly a vapor. It’s here today and quickly gone tomorrow.
“Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for little time and then vanishes.”-James 4:14
We may think that we know what today brings, but in all reality God is the only who knows. That is why I preach so hard. That’s why I write so often. And why I try to pray without ceasing. Because people that I come in contact with don’t know Christ, and since our life is a vapor and no one knows what the day holds we must live our Life on mission for Christ.
Let me ask you a question. If you were on a magnificent cruise ship and everyone was having a great time. Let’s say that you found out for 100% that the ship was going to sink and that many people could die. What if you kept your mouth shut and didn’t tell anyone that it was going to sink? Those people had no idea that day the ship they were on was going to sink and that many of their loved ones would sink with the ship. You knew it was going to sink, but you didn’t tell anyone.
See, when we don’t tell others the truth of Christ we are disobeying God and quickly forgetting that life is a vapor. No one knows when their timer is up, that’s why the Gospel message is so urgent. It never gets old. The grace of God continues to save people. What do you need to do today for Christ?
This life we have will soon be passed, what’s only done for Christ will last.
